It is nearly impossible to prevent almost any Company from occasionally being affected by rumors. Everyone that works for the Company likes to feel they know what’s going on. However, if they start interjecting their suspicions into a situation then it will cause harm. That said, there is basically no way to stop rumors from being spread. Good supervisors, managers and or owners can do a lot to keep suspicions from developing into rumors. They can work to minimize the possible damage even though it is impossible to stop completely. The initial step is to be as open as possible about everything, while maintaining the fact that certain things are not to be divulged, if they would damage the Company. Management should keep their eyes and ears open for things that could be misconstrued or twisted. Also, if management becomes suspicious about something, whether it concerns people who work for them or that they work for then don’t speculate. They should go directly to the people involved and gets the facts. It saves time, headaches and the potential start of rumors.
