LOW PRESSURE SELLING

In our blog last week, we talked about the importance of Sales Aids when selling.

As a followup, this week we our going to talk about Low Pressure Selling.

The theory for this sales approach is based upon the desire to be of service, not just make a sale. The Low Pressure Selling presentation is based upon these factors:

  1. Gain the respect of your prospect.
  2. Having your prospect wanting to buy.
  3. Complete knowledge of their issues and problems.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of your products and services.
  5. Making only promises that you can keep.

Are these ideas new or revolutionary? Certainly not. It’s a method of selling that shows your prospect that you know your stuff and you can solve their problems.

SALES AIDS

Selling your Carpet Cleaning and other related services may not be glamorous but done properly there are some ways to put pizzazz into a presentation to a prospective client.

Sales Aids will do just that by adding interest and emphasis to a presentation. They come in many different forms. Here are a few ideas and depending on the prospect’s interest and potential time constraints may be used.

  1. Printed material is always a must. Brochures with pictures and descriptive narratives will reinforce what is being said and when left behind will help in the prospect’s recollection. The very least of these should be a business card.
  2. A video presentation from a laptop or iPad that shows your technicians cleaning in a variety of situations will showcase the services you offer and will help close a sale. But be sure that your prospect has the time necessary for such a presentation. You do not want to overstay your welcome. Consider “burning” copies of your presentation and offer to leave one.
  3. The ultimate in Sales Aids is a live demonstration. The chance to show your services at work at your prospect’s premises is without question invaluable. However, this requires even more of your prospect’s time and preferably should be requested in advance of your scheduled appointment.

Do whatever works best for you but always use Sales Aids.

LET GO OF THAT GRUDGE

We all have probably had a negative interaction with someone. Some people can let it go, but others will hold a grudge. The thought of getting even drives some people and all they can think about is revenge. Obviously, this is unhealthy and they should probably work through it. Why? Because devoting so much time to negative thoughts is probably not going to work out in the end.

Don’t get trapped into obsessing on what has happened before. Yes, you can think about it, acknowledge it, and certainly remember it. But to focus your energies on your grudge will probably only hurt you in the long run.

If you catch yourself going over and over the offending scenario in your head, immerse yourself in some activity that will clear your head. Don’t let a grudge affect your every day life and your interaction with your family, friends and co-workers.

While you are carrying that grudge and letting it affect you, the other person is probably not even thinking about it or know that they offended you.

Let Go Of That Grudge, you’ll thank yourself.

Will Cleaning Carpet Remove Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Recently, an owner of Bane-Clene truckmount carpet cleaning equipment asked if it is “powerful enough” to get rid of bacteria and viruses.

I suspect their question was in response to customer concerns over the Coronavirus virus (COVID-19).

Cleaning carpet will remove most bacteria and viruses. Most public health sites such as the North Carolina Division of Public Health state “steam-clean the carpet to 170 degrees Fahrenheit for five minutes or 212 degrees Fahrenheit for one minute to completely inactivate the virus.”

A paragraph in an article at health.harvard.edu/blog/as-coronavirus-spreads-many-questions-and-some-answers-2020022719004#q5 titled “Can the coronavirus live on soft surfaces like fabric or carpet? What about hard surfaces?” states:

“How long the new coronavirus can live on a soft surface — and more importantly, how easy or hard it is to spread this way — isn’t clear yet. So far, available evidence suggests it can be transmitted less easily from soft surfaces than frequently-touched hard surfaces, such as a doorknob or elevator button.
“According to the WHO, coronaviruses may survive on surfaces for just a few hours or several days, although many factors will influence this, including surface material and weather.”

An article on the World Health Organization at who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses titled “How long does the virus survive on surfaces?” states:

“It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems to behave like other coronaviruses. Studies suggest that coronaviruses (including preliminary information on the COVID-19 virus) may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment).
“If you think a surface may be infected, clean it with simple disinfectant to kill the virus and protect yourself and others. Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.”

According to Dylan Morris, a Ph.D candidate at Princeton, a government-funded experiment by researchers from Princeton, UCLA, and the National Institutes of Health shows that SARS-COVID-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can survive on surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel for up to three days. Though preliminary, the experiment emphasizes the importance of diligently sanitizing cellphones, plastic and metal surfaces regularly to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Our
web page on MediClean
Germicidal Cleaner Concentrate
states “While this new strain of Coronavirus
(COVID-19) has not been tested against any disinfectants as of the time of this
statement, Mediclean Germicidal Cleaner Concentrate has been shown effective against
similar classes of viruses - the Human Coronavirus, Adenovirus, and the SARS Associated
Coronavirus. It is an EPA registered (no. 70385-6) hospital-grade, disinfectant
cleaner concentrate for use on many different types of surfaces per its label.” MediClean Germicidal Cleaner Concentrate QGC is listed on EPA’s “List
N: Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2
” list of EPA registered disinfectants that may be used against coronavirus.

Additionally, Sporicidin® Disinfectant Solution is approved for decontaminating carpets.

The COVID-19 Coronavirus that is currently causing concern has the following characteristics:

  • Person-to-person spread has been reported outside China, including in the United States and other countries.
  • Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS, SARS, and now with COVID-19.
  • COVID-19 is a betacoronavirus, like MERS and SARs, both of which have their origins in bats.
  • It has made a significant number of people sick in many countries around the world and many have died.
  • CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine, taking everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs, and taking flu antivirals if prescribed.
  • 2019-nCoV is not that same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness, like the common cold.
  • The recently emerged 2019-nCoV is not the same as the coronavirus that causes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) or the coronavirus that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). However, genetic analyses suggest this virus emerged from a virus related to SARS.
  • According to the CDC, “products with label claims against human coronaviruses should be used according to label instructions.” This would include Sporicidin and MediClean Germicidal Cleaner Concentrate.
  • Ensure that environmental cleaning and disinfection procedures are followed consistently and correctly. Routine cleaning and disinfection procedures (e.g., using cleaners and water to pre-clean surfaces prior to applying an EPA-registered, hospital-grade disinfectant to frequently touched surfaces or objects for appropriate contact times as indicated on the product’s label) are appropriate for COVID-19 in healthcare settings, including those patient-care areas in which aerosol-generating procedures are performed.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

We all occasionally get in a rut or feel our energy has been drained.

That is the the time we should Try Something New.

You should check out activities or events in your local area. Pick out something you would not normally do and give it a try.

Maybe it’s a different type of movie, a sporting event you are not a fan of, a presentation by an artist, a lecture, etc. Whatever it is, once again be sure it’s not something you would normally do. The whole idea is to get your energy flowing and recharge your batteries. You want to stimulate your mind and senses in new and different ways.

Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised how enjoyable and perhaps thought provoking this new activity is. At the very least, you will get out and Try Something New.

The truth is, changing our routine when we are feeling low or unenergized will allow us to step out of a rut and maybe even find some undiscovered and new interest.
